Celebrate Oyster Week In SoHo!
Celebrate Oyster Week In SoHo! Oyster Week Starts Today, September 11th and runs until September 28!
The only SoHo restaurant showcased on the Oyster Week website is Lure Fishbar at 142 Mercer Street, but you can celebrate Oyster Week at several other restaurants in SoHo! It’s hard not to notice the 10-calorie delicacy is trendy here.
Strutting up and down Sullivan, Thompson, Spring, Prince, and West Broadway, there are several other restaurants with oysters on their menu. Most recently, NAVY opened on Sullivan Street and here are some of the other amazing options (besides Lure):
- Blue Ribbon Brasserie
- Ed’s Lobster Bar
- Cervantes’ Oyster Shack & Bar @ Cafe Select
- The Dutch
Out of these options, you will most likely find me at Blue Ribbon, Aquagrill and The Dutch. Blue Ribbon has my favorite shucker, Victor, Aquagrill has the largest selection, and The Dutch has the best people watching from the bar area.
There are also several other amazing places outside of SoHo for oysters. For Happy Hour, Ten Bells on Broome Street in the Lower East Side offers $1 oysters and Mermaid Oyster Bar on Macdougal Street offers $1 for east coast oysters and clams.
History of oysters in NYC is also quite fascinating. Did you know that when the Dutch settled, it was estimated that the New York Harbor contained half of the worlds oysters? Today, the oysters in the Harbor are not edible, but since the Clean Water Act in 1972, many efforts have been made to ensure one day they will be again.
