Let Us Eat Local Event September 17th!

I met up with up-and-coming food+fashion blogger ByBreanne this weekend who is participating in the Just Food event, “Let Us Eat Local 2014” happening September 17 from 7:30-10pm.  Breanne will be baking an amazing cake for Rouge Tomate like this one inspired by the Heart & Noble Croma Necklace for Fashion Week!

The Just Food event is a benefit featuring restaurants, wineries and breweries that serve locally purveyed ingredients and dishes.  Scrolling through the roster there were three SoHo restaurants featured:

Ticket prices (and remember its a benefit!) are as follows:

  • VIP tickets to the event, from 6:30-10pm are $350
  • General Admission from 7:30-10pm are $225,
  • Just Food Membership is $40.

I was in touch with the Community Manager for the event.  They said:

In Soho we have Chef Peter Hoffman’s Back Forty West and Hundred Acres Restaurant. Peter Hoffman has been a long-time supporter of Just Food and this event — he used to own the popular Soho restaurant Savoy before it closed; he now owns Back Forty Restaurant in East Village and Back Forty West on Prince Street. He basically pioneered the seasonal menu approach and farm-to-table cuisine in NYC and is well-known for his commitment to local and sustainable food. The Communications Associate for Just Food told Soho Strut:

Just Food is a non-profit organization that empowers and supports community-led efforts to increase access to locally grown food, especially in under-served New York City neighborhoods. Just Food provides training and education to community members to help them launch projects like farmers’ markets and CSAs, provide education in basic culinary and urban agriculture skills for their neighbors, and advocate to make their corner of New York City a healthier place to live and eat.

Are you planning on attending the event?  I would love to hear on Facebook, Twitter, or email me at Danielle@sohostrut.com. [GARD]
