Lena Dunham loves SOHO more {than Brooklyn}
If Lena Dunham likes Brooklyn so much, why do so many of the scenes in “Girls” take place in Soho? Last week, the week of June 24, 2013, all around Soho, “Girls” was being filmed — first around Naked Lunch on Thompson Street:
then around Felix on Grand Street and West Broadway:
then at S’nice on Sullivan Street:
and finally further down on Sullivan Street near The Room:
There were other sources confirming the taping of HBO’s Season 3 of “Girls” all week in Soho, from this gossip website, to a few assistant camera men (who did not want to be on sohostrut, although they showed off their strut off-camera). And…this isn’t the first season that has several scenes in Soho.
The question is: if several sources say Lena Dunham loves Brooklyn; “Girls”, her HBO show revolves around the lives of recent college graduates living in Brooklyn; and several areas that are promoted as having increased in value such as Greenpoint solely due to “Girls”, as the “Lena Dunham effect” why does “Girls” always find ways to tape in Soho?
Sohostrut welcomes theories why so many of the scenes in “Girls” take place in Soho, however, until then, the only logical answer is that Lena Dunham actually loves Soho more than Brooklyn.
Random fact:
Soshanna, one of the characters, lives in Soho, however, the size and more specifically the layout of her studio apartment is too big and square for it to be in Soho, as they are all “tenement” style and around 325 sq feet and long/ rectangular.
