Smith & Mills Planning To Open Another Restaurant in SoHo?

A friend in the neighborhood emailed me a flyer titled, “New Restaurant for “Once Upon a Tart” Space Wants Liquor License”.  Ironically posted outside of the NAVY Restaurant on Sullivan Street, it turns out the owners of Smith & Mills are planning to open another restaurant in SoHo:

: Smith & Mills Once Upon A Tart Soho NYC

The owners of Smith & Mills recently opened Navy, in February 2014 two doors down.  Business must be great since the space at Once Upon A Tart is around three times the space.  Rumor has it the plan is to open up an event space in addition to a more formal sit-down restaurant in the planned space.

The flyer states the owner/operators are trying to obtain a liquor license, which would be the first restaurant on the block with liquor.  Due to St. Anthony’s Church and Parish up the street, there are liquor laws that prohibit liquor establishments within a certain distance.  The “Once Upon A Tart” space falls just outside the limits.  In order to be approved for a liquor license, the applicants must demonstrate “public interest”.

There will be a meeting tonight (Tuesday July 1) at 6:30pm in the basement of St. Anthony’s Church to discuss their proposed business plans. I will be there for a short period tonight – looking forward to meeting locals! [GARD]
