Who says nothing is free?
Sweaty Betty, a British Athletic Company focused on re-defining the UK sports market, decided to “take their marks” in the US and open a flagship at 77 Mercer Street in Soho in August 2013. Their purpose is “to inspire women to find empowerment through fitness”. Their philosophy is strongly incorporated into their brand values: they strive to be local and social by organizing fitness groups, getting involved in the communities they operate in, and hire employees with diverse fitness backgrounds.
At the flagship in Soho, there is a salesfloor on the first level, and a workout room in the lower level. Sweaty Betty offers the following free workout classes:
- Barre Fusion club every Monday @ 6:30pm
- HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) club every Thursday @ 6:30pm
- Yoga club every Friday @ 12:30pm.
Additional classes will be added as classes fill up and other instructors are discovered and added. All you need to do is register for a membership by stopping into the store prior to a class, and calling the day before around 11am to sign up for the class.
Be sure to try their newest set of classes for September 2013: Frame Rave. The lights in the studio are turned off, strobe lights are turned on, and face paint and glowsticks are incorporated into the workout. Good news for those who consider themselves unathletic: Frame Rave requires no training technique other than letting go; you don’t have to worry too much about the moves and you can push your body as much or as little as you like.
Sweaty Betty Hours are Monday – Saturday: 11am – 7pm and Sunday: 12pm – 6pm.
