Weekend’s on West Broadway – OK Cigars
Gavin Baker, a manager who has been working for 5 years provided an overview and tour of the store:
Ivan used to work at the old “Castelli Gallery” (The Leo Castelli Gallery @ 4 East 77th Street which opened on February 10, 1957) and was able to choose many of the artists whose art was displayed there. Andy Warhol came in and tried to get a special price on a drawing, and a friendship began after Ivan went to Andy’s studio.
Almost a year ago Ivan passed away, which was one of Soho’s recent neighborhood losses.
There are many Cigar friendly restaurants in Soho such as Cipriani Downtown, Felix or many of the stoops on Sullivan and Thompson Street. The perfect cigar strut would be picking up / lighting a cigar at OK Cigars, walking up West Broadway to check out the street artists, and hanging out on the stoop of St. Anthony’s Church on Sullivan and Houston.
